My husband loves his coffee. Cold, hot, iced, frozen, you name it. He brews coffee every day. Each night he’ll prepare the coffee maker with the appropriate amount of grounds and water. He’ll also set a time for it to begin brewing each morning (in our case it’s 4:00 a.m.).
But, I find myself throwing away a ton of used coffee grounds every night. Coffee is expensive and I’d hate to waste it. I wondered, is there anything that I can use old coffee grounds for?
The blog Mother Nature Network has a nice post about using old coffee grounds for things other than decorating the inside of a garbage bag.

Yes, coffee is expensive, but Mother Nature Network has another reason to save and reuse those old coffee grounds:
“One thing is for sure: it’s generally a long journey for beans and leaves to travel from exotic climes to the kitchen counter — so we may as well honor them with some extra chores before condemning them to the trash.”
Some of the more interesting uses mentioned on the blog include using coffee grounds as an exfoliate for your skin and using grounds to keep cats out of your garden.
One tip in particular seems very useful: Use coffee grounds as mulch for acid-loving plants– roses, azaleas, evergreens, etc.
But wait, there’s more!
Mother Nature Network takes everything a step further to include old tea bags, as well. I’m also a huge fan of tea (do you see a pattern here?). My husband’s addiction to caffeine is epic.
Anyways, many of the uses for old tea bags include odor-eliminating uses. Good to know.
